How it works.
Everything the ancestors know or have experienced is
passed (in varing degree) to the child. In humans it is weak, and you call
it intuition, hunches, dreams, etc. In us it is so strong that it is just
like an old memory. It gets dimmer over very long periods but it is still
there. Memories may be anything from simple visual records of emotionally
charged events (pleasant or unpleasant), to insights on cultural problems,
all the way to specific understanding of the details of StarFolk technologies.
There must have been job specialization among the Ancestors. Starman sees the
engines almost perfectly (clear enough to have gotten a patent on the propulsion
system!) but everything else is shimmery/fuzzy or not
seen it at all. Grandaddy must have been the "Scotty" of the crew.
Search for home.
We am homesick for a place we have never been to physically, but
know very well. Back when we first came we told your ancestors about home.
They called it Paradise, Heaven, etc. You may have a smidgen of that left
in you, and get a warm, fuzzy feeling about it, and maybe a fuzzy vision
about it, and you have never been there physically either. We're not even
sure where it is, but we have some theories.
Potential problems.
Having Ancestor memories can cause problems, whether the memories are subconscious or
conscious ones not recognized as such. Buried memories are a source of
fear and prejudice and can be very
hard to change.
