We are designing and building Starships, Beams, and Landers, using a propulsion system patented by our StarMan.

When the Big Ships come in (from a different Star System) they are moving very fast, and can't easily stop. So the first ship sent to a Star System new to us is a Little Ship, which has to come across slow and build a Beam for subsequent voyages. Because the long range Beam station can't send through an atmosphere or a strong magnetic field the Beam station has to be built off Earth, hence the need for Landers--to travel around inside the solar system.

The Landers are usually referred to as UFO's when seen.

In the case of Earth, that first Little Ship carried our Ancestors, eons ago. It was their job (and now ours) to build the Beam, so the Big Ships can come and go. None of us can get home, or even call for a Big Ship until we get the Beam station built. A rescue party started immediately after our crash has to use another Little Ship, going slow like we did--taking several thousand years to arrive.
