Sky Watch

We sit in the dark and look at the sky
we count all the stars and try not to cry
but wishes and tears yield nothing at all
how can lonely so large fill a body so small?

Fast losing our reason along with our rhymes
we feel lost in space and maybe in time
We know they exist, recall them so clear
we hold out our arms, "come get me, I'm here"

Still no starship hovers, no rescue arrives
and we the lost children go on with our lives
but the stars in our eyes and the want on each face
show the urge never leaves to fly back home to space
