Can Can Memories

Everyone's a little crazy --
I know I am myself --
and memories get hazy
once you put them on the shelf.

Nothing's ever quite the same
when you go back to see
what it was you stored away
as careful as could be.

Some jars cloud up till you can't see
what contents they might hold
and fear to touch the bulging lids
(there are worse things than mold).

Some jars they stay so clean and bright
with colors clear and true
Turn them slowly in the light
their contents all on view.

Some jars cannot be opened
their lids are fused with rust
and some aren't where you left them
see the hollows in the dust?
